'The Rocketeers' are very proud to have been involved in Byte Night 2009. On Friday 2nd October 2009 we unrolled our sleeping bags and slept rough for one night at the Baltic on the Newcastle Quayside and raised £1,158 for Action For Children.
Byte Night is the IT industry's annual sleep out in support of Action for Children and helps to tackle the root causes of youth homelessness and get thousands of children and young people off the streets and into secure accommodation with education and training opportunities that can change the course of their lives.
Byte Night is a unique event that takes place across the UK. In 2008, it raised £470,000. Now in its 11th year, it is one of the single biggest fundraisers for Action for Children.
Our support of Byte Night is vital to ensuring it continues to support the thousands of vulnerable young people Action for Children work with each year.
A few weeks on from Byte Night and we’re pleased to announce record breaking sums raised across the UK. The total now stands at over £440,000 and with promises and pledges still expected in the weeks to come, we look set to break through the half-million mark! This amazing figure is thanks to the hard work of the 700 sleepers across the UK who pulled out all the stops to raise sponsorship.
With the sleeping bags now packed away for another year, our thoughts turn to the young people who can’t return home after a cold night on the streets and to the work we need to do to ensure they are given the support and help they need to find and secure accommodation and access the services and support we all take for granted.
'The Rocketeers' can't wait to roll out those sleeping bags again for Byte Night 2010!!
